How we came to be?
It’s a bit of a funny story. Guthie was born out of a love for the F&B scene, a desire to see these businesses thrive, and a dedication to the industry's future. But also on a whim.
The founder of Guthie received a call from an employment advisory service for a meeting.
'What's your next move?' the advisor inquired.
'Hmm, I might take a job, or I might start a company,' she replied vaguely, trying to play for time.
'Oh, and what kind of company would it be?' the advisor asked in a dry tone.
Rewind a few months earlier. Guthie's founder was in the midst of a six-month globe-trotting adventure. She needed a breather from her decade-long career in the F&B industry to recalibrate and dream up her next big venture.
One evening, she found herself at a beachside restaurant in Thailand, sharing dinner with a friend. The dinner service was a bit chaotic, and as two staff members approached to apologize, she waved it off and blurted out a few helpful suggestions.
The following night, they returned for dinner, greeted by warm smiles. The staff even offered them cocktails and enthusiastically reported that things had run much smoother that day.
'You should make a career out of this,' her friend chuckled.
And right then and there, in the advisor's office, she decided that she would.
